NEHI soda was founded by Claud A. Hatcher, a pharmacist from Columbus, GA, who began bottling ginger ale and root beer in 1905. In 1924 Chero-Cola added this new flavored soda to its line of soft drinks. The "NEHI Corporation" name was adopted in 1928 after the Nehi fruit-flavored sodas became more popular than the original Chero-Cola. Claud Hatcher, by then the company's president, died suddenly December 31, 1933 so the Vice President, H. R. Mott, took over as President. In 1955, the company changed its name to Royal Crown Company, after the success of its RC Cola brand. In April 2008, Nehi became a brand of Dr. Pepper Snapple Group (now Keurig Dr Pepper). A little known fact about NEHI is that the famous "leg lamp" from the movie, "A Christmas Story" was actually inspired by an old NEHI advertisement. Jean Shepherd, the author of the story, was inspired to create the leg lamp after seeing an illuminated Nehi Soda advertisement.
